2007 Summer Stipend Recipients 

 

Gephardt Stipends for Political Action Internships

 

Two $3,000 Gephardt Stipends for Political Action summer stipends are awarded annually for unpaid internships in political action or local, state, or federal government.  These stipends are administered by Washington University’s Career Center and funded by the Gephardt Institute. 

 

Eligibility

 

· Students must be undergraduates returning for at least one semester the following fall.

· Students must utilize the stipend to support summer work.

· Internships should be a minimum of 35 hours per week over at least 10 weeks.

· Internships can be located at a government agency or branch, a political office, or a non-profit advocacy organization.

· Please note that political campaign work is NOT eligible.

 

Criteria

 

· Applications will be judged by the student’s goals for the internship as related to career aspirations and personal growth.

· Preference will be given to internships that are new for the student, rather than a continuation of previous work.

 

Follow-On Requirements

 

· Stipend recipients will be required to participate in the Office of Undergraduate Research symposium.

· Stipend recipients may be requested to participate as speakers, panelists, or advisors for Gephardt Institute programs.

 

Internship Application

 

· Applicants must apply via CAREERLink.

· Applicants must provide an offer letter from the host organization or legislative sponsor.

 

Final Decision

 

· Gephardt Institute staff will have the opportunity to review the applicant pool and collaborate with the Career Center to make the final decision.
