The Community Service Office is pleased to announce a new gift from Max & Judith Stern that will provide additional funding for WU Social Change Grants during summer 2009. Both Stern Social Change Grants now provide $6000 each, are open to all undergraduate students, and may be used for domestic or international projects.
Because of these changes, the deadline for all Social Change Grant proposals is extended to February 20, 2009. In addition to the Stern Grants, the Gephardt Grant and Kaldi’s Grant are also available for the development and implementation of innovative community projects during the summer. Social Change Grants provide a unique opportunity for students to receive funding to pursue an independent summer project in the spirit of social entrepreneurship. Students can use the funding to pay themselves a salary in lieu of summer work, to defray living expenses, or to cover travel and project expenses. Individuals or teams are welcome to apply.
Students may submit proposals for multiple grants if they meet eligibility requirements. The Stern’s gift has expanded eligibility for all undergraduates and the funds can be used for any social change project anywhere in the world; priority for one of the two grants will be given to a student involved in any program supported by Hillel. This priority criteria can be met through involvement in a wide variety of student groups, events, community service projects, interfaith dialogue groups, speakers, etc. which Hillel sponsors or co-sponsors on some level.
Complete information and abstracts of past Social Change Grant projects are available at www.communityservice.wustl.edu/grants.
