"Is it true that Washington U. students tend to live in a bubble? Yes, but a lot of them want to ‘pop’ the bubble."
In the sheltered realm of academic life, students must take deliberate steps to gain real world experience outside the "Washington U. bubble." The Institute encourages them to leave the comfort of campus, test their mettle, and discover meaningful ways to improve the lives of others. Programs like the one developed by Professor Glenn Stone allow them to do so.
Stone’s Village India program takes a select group of undergraduates to rural Andra Pradesh to mentor youth. They make a unique contribution to local Indian students’ education, teaching new subjects and providing intensive English training. The mentorship not only makes a positive impact on a local community, but also deepens their commitment to global issues affecting us all.
