Kelley Greenman and Venu Reddy

"I have been given so much, and have a responsibility to pay it back."

Venu and Kelley found the Village India program rewarding in so many ways. Venu’s students never failed to bring a smile to his face. Teaching creative writing, Kelley learned how satisfying it could be to help others succeed at a new skill.

Equally important, their service abroad solidified their career paths. Venu gained confidence in his ability to work overseas, and hopes to open a public health clinic in India someday. An environmental studies major, Kelley was also able to conduct research on global climate change and its affect on India’s water.

The Gephardt Institute wants such experiences to be possible for all Washington University students, and provides advising and stipends in support of service programs that spark personal and professional growth.
