"I've known for a long time that I wanted to work with people in a capacity in which I could be helpful"
From freshman year at Washington University, Kristi sought out opportunities to engage with the community. A master’s degree at the Brown School Social Work was a logical next step. Her first graduate service-learning class, taught by Gephardt Institute Director Amanda Moore McBride, gave her hands-on experience creating a marketing plan for a community agency.
As a Graduate Fellow in Residential Life, Kristi oversees a program for undergraduates to volunteer throughout the year at Doorways, a facility for people with HIV/AIDS. The Doorways partnership promotes a lasting relationship with the community, and this kind of sustainable service represents the ideal of the Institute.
